Abstract

This study was aimed at 3D seismic structural characterization in the Gomaud Field of the Niger Delta to highlight hydrocarbon prospective zones. The study employed seismic attributes analysis to enhance the detection of faults and Direct Hydrocarbon Indicators (DHIs). Using variance (edge) attributes, fifteen (15) faults were mapped, predominantly growth faults (listric) and antithetic faults, with a NE-SW orientation. Five (5) key horizons (H1- H5) characterized by high RMS amplitude and sweetness values, which served as indicators of hydrocarbon accumulation were identified. Structural analysis revealed that hydrocarbons are trapped within fault-assisted anticlinal structures, with faults acting as migration pathways. Time and depth structure maps confirm structural closures favorable for hydrocarbon accumulation. The study concludes that seismic attributes such as RMS amplitude, variance edge, and sweetness significantly enhance hydrocarbon prospecting by improving fault visualization and subsurface characterization.
