Petrophysical Evaluation of Langbodo Reservoirs, Niger Delta, Nigeria

Abstract

The Niger Delta basin of Nigeria covers the Langbodo reservoirs which have attracted the interests of several geoscientists for proper petrophysical analysis to obtain their reservoir quality and percentage hydrocarbon (HC) contents. This study integrates petrophysical, geophysical, and geological data to allow for a detailed evaluation of reservoir properties. Wireline logs, which include the density, resistivity, gamma-ray, and neutron logs, were used to determine hydrocarbon zones of the reservoir, calculate porosity, and obtain fluid potential. The methodologies used showed the sand to shale lithologies delineation, effective porosity estimation, and the use of Archie’s algorithm for water saturation estimation. Heterogeneity of reservoir was addressed via volumetric evaluations and cross-plots. Seismic analysis revealed structural understanding into HC traps. Results obtained reveal exploitable fluids in the Langbodo reservoirs. The quality of reservoirs shows porosity values existing between 20% and 30%, permeability within100–500 mD, and negligible water saturation potential. Hydrocarbon-harboring intervals and zones were determined by the presence of values revealing low density and high resistivity. Structural cartography showed anticlinal ends and fault-enhanced traps as salient characteristics assisting HC accumulation.
