Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science are rapidly reshaping global systems, offering innovative solutions for the world’s most pressing challenges. Sustainable development—encompassing economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability—can be accelerated by leveraging the predictive, analytical, and decision-support capabilities of these technologies. This paper examines the role of AI and Data Science in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It highlights practical applications in healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, governance, and climate change mitigation. At the same time, it addresses the associated risks, including digital divides, algorithmic bias, ethical dilemmas, and limited institutional capacity in developing economies. The paper concludes with policy recommendations emphasizing digital infrastructure, ethical frameworks, skill development, and public–private partnerships. By adopting inclusive and responsible strategies, nations can harness AI and Data Science not only to meet development targets but also to create more equitable and resilient societies.
