Investigating Innovative Teaching Methodologies and Technologies Among Undergraduate Students

This research work discusses the benefits of blending the old traditional system of teaching physics with the innovative methodologies and technologies in our current age and generation in tertiary institutions in order to stimulate the real essence of studying physics as a course. The descriptive survey and experimental survey research design was adopted for this study. The population of this study comprises of selected physics students in Adeyemi federal university of education, Ondo. A total of 200 students were separated into two groups for the research analysis. First 100 students to serve as the control group while the other 100 students as the experimental group. Tests were administered to both groups before the class and after the class as a means of which the data was collected from the respondents. A data collected was analyzed using t-test. The research hypothesis was tested at 0.05 alpha level using t-tests. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to test for relationship between the control group and experimental group. the findings of this study showed the mean score of functional learning model pretest to be 7.7950 ± 1.92550 and that of old traditional posttest method to be 6.000 ± 1.60492. The mean difference was 1.795.the t-test value (df = 99, t = 7.661) was found to be significant at 0.05 alpha level (p<0.000) which affirmed that there was significant difference in the two teaching methodologies. this study concluded that innovative teaching methodologies and technologies improve the learning in physics classrooms and laboratories in Nigerian tertiary institutions and it was recommended that all instructors and lecturers should try and keep their selves relevant by improving and working on their area of specialization equipping themselves with innovative methodologies and technologies in their choice of discipline.
